Indian Recipe: Aloo Shimla Mirch

This is a very tasty stuffed Bell Pepper Recipe from India. The Peppers are filled with spicy mashed Potatoes and then slowly fried in a pan. Best eaten with a Chutney Dip and perhaps some Roti

  • 4-5 Bell Pepper seeded
  • 5-6 Potatoes boiled and peeled
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 green Chili chopped
  • 3 Cloves Garlic choppedc
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Amchur (Mango Powder)
  • 1 handful Coriander chopped
  • 2 + 2 tbsp Oil


  1. Mash the Potatoes and set aside
  2. Heat 2 tbsp Oil on a low flame and fry the Cumin Seeds for 3 minutes
  3. Add the Onion and fry for 2 minutes
  4. Add Garlic and green Chili and fry 1 more minute
  5. Add Chili and Turmeric Powder and fry again 1 minute
  6. Add mashed Potatoes, mix well and frz for 2 minutes
  7. Add Garam Masala, Amchoor, Coriander and Salt, mix well and turn off the heat
  8. Stuff the Bell Peppers with the Potato Mixture
  9. Heat 2 tbsp Oil on a low flame again and fry the stuffed Bell Peppers for a total of 20 to 25 minutes. Turn the Peppers a few times, so everz side gets slightly brown. At last also put it on the top with the Potato filling to the pan.
