German Recipe: Dampfnudeln

This is a south German traditional dish. Tasty yeast dumplings with Vanilla Sauce or Applesauce. Very delicious and not too difficult to make.

Preperation: 15 minutes (+60 minutes rest)
Servings: 4 dumplings
Cooking: 20 minutes (+20 minutes rest)

Ingredients

  • 300g Flour (All Purpose)
  • 170 ml Soy Milk (warm)
  • 2 tsp dry Yeast
  • 1 tbsp Margarine
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 100 ml Water + 2 tbsp Sugar
  • Pinch of Salt
  • To serve with:
    -Vanilla Sauce or Applesauce

Instruction

  1. Put in a Bowl: Flour, Sugar, a Pinch of Salt, Yeast and Margarine and mix with warm(!) Soy Milk
  2. Knead the Dough for a few minutes and let it rise covered for 1 hour.
  3. Knead the Dough again and form 4 Dumplings.
    Put the Dumplings in a greased Pot and let them rest covered for 20 minutes.
  4. Bring the water in the covered Pot to boil. Start with high heat and then turn it slowly down. Dont remove the lid at anytime before finished.
  5. The Dumplings are ready when the water is mostly gone. You can hear a sizzling sound. It takes around 18 minutes.
  6. Serve with Vanilla Sauce or Applesauce.
