Greek Recipe: Gemista

Very delicious oven baked Greek Bell Peppers with a simple rice filling. They taste also good with some vegan Yoghurt or Tzatziki .

Preperation: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 Bell Pepper seeded
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 3 Cloves Garlic chopped
  • 4 tbsp Parsley chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1-2 Potatoes sliced (optional)

Sauce:

  • 3 Tomatoes chopped
  • 5 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Water

Instruction

  1. Heat 2 tbsp Oil and fry the Onions for 4 minutes on low to medium heat
  2. Add Garlic and fry for 1-2 minutes
  3. Add Rice and Tomatoes, mix well and fry 1 more minute
  4. Add 2 cups Water, Salt and Pepper, bring to boil and let its simmer until the rice is almost done. (15 minutes) .
  5. Add Parsley, mix well and put the rice aside.
  6. For the Sauce: Put Tomatoes, Pepper, Salt, Sugar, Olive Oil and Water into a Blender.
  7. Add the Sauce. Rub it a bit on the Bell Peppers
    As an Alternative You can just use Olive Oil instead of the Sauce)
  8. Put the Bell Peppers in a pre heated Oven. 180 Degree Celsius for around 80 minutes. .
